Cooking with Mom
Hello! My name is Emma. I am ten years old. I wake up early today because I am very excited! Today is Saturday, and I don’t have school. I will cook breakfast with my mom.
First, I get out of bed and put on my soft slippers. I wash up in the bathroom. I brush my teeth, comb my hair, and look at myself in the mirror. I say, “Good morning, Emma! Let’s have a great day!”
When I walk into the kitchen, I see Mom take out eggs, milk, and butter from the fridge. "Good morning, sweetheart!" she says. "Are you ready to cook?"
"Yes, Mom! What are we going to make?" I ask.
Mom smiles and says, "Let's make pancakes, fruit salad, and juice!"
"Yay!" I say, clapping my hands. I look for my little yellow apron and put it on. "I’m ready now!"
Mom says, "First, let’s set up the kitchen table. Can you bring out the plates, forks, and spoons?"
"Sure, Mom!" I say. I pick up the plates and put them on the table carefully. Then I bring out cups for juice and water.
Next, we start cooking pancakes. Mom says, "Please get the flour and sugar."
I take out the flour and sugar from the shelf and hand them over to Mom.
Mom mixes up the flour, sugar, eggs, and milk in a big bowl. "Emma, can you pour in the milk?" she asks.
"Yes!" I say. I pour in the milk slowly. "Good job!" says Mom.
Then, Mom turns on the stove. "Emma, we need to be careful when we cook. The stove is hot," she says.
"Okay, Mom," I say.
Mom pours out some pancake batter into the pan. Tiny bubbles show up on the pancake. "Look, Emma! It's cooking!"
"Wow!" I say.
Mom says, "Now we need to flip over the pancake." She shows me how to hold the spatula. "Here, you try out!"
I flip over the pancake very slowly. "I did it!" I say, laughing.
"Great job!" Mom says.
While we wait for more pancakes to cook, we make fruit salad. I cut up strawberries and bananas. Mom cuts up apples and grapes. We put in all the fruit into a big glass bowl and mix it up.
"Let’s pour out some orange juice," Mom says. I pick up the juice bottle and pour out juice for both of us.
When the pancakes are ready, we put on some honey and butter. We also spread out some jam on top. "It looks so pretty!" I say.
Finally, we sit down to eat. I take a bite of the pancake. "Mmm, it’s delicious!" I say. Mom smiles and says, "I'm happy you like it."
"Mom, can we make up new pancake flavors next time?" I ask.
"Sure! We can think up fun recipes together," Mom says.
After breakfast, we clean up the table. I pick up the plates and wash them off in the sink. Mom wipes down the table and puts away the cups.
"Thank you for helping me, Emma," Mom says.
"I love cooking with you, Mom! Can we do it again tomorrow?"
"Of course, my sweet girl," Mom says, giving me a hug.
